Nokia Is Back With Full Android D1C Smartphone; Runs on 7.0 Nougat

It's been a while since we last heard something about Nokia. The Finnish brand, after years of dominating the mobile phone industry back in the heyday, quietly stepped down from the competition and handed the torch over to the likes of Samsung, Apple and everyone that pitched in on the Android craze. Their Windows phone and the defunct Nokia X may have left a spot on the market, but it wasn't enough to rekindle the flame.

Current tech buzz however is claiming that Nokia is once again making its presence felt. According to News Everyday, a new Nokia phone was recently spotted on benchmarking website GeekBench. Dubbed as the Nokia D1C, the Smartphone will flaunt a full Android makeover, particularly the latest Operating System, the 7.0 Nougat. Additionally, the new Nokia phone will be powered by a 1.4GHz ARM octa-core processor alongside what seems to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 System on Chip (SoC), Adreno 505 graphics and 3GB of onboard storage.

Smartphone Price meanwhile added several key features of the upcoming Nokia D1C. Included in their post is a 5.2-inch IPS LCD display screen with a 1920x1080 screen resolution and a coating of Corning Gorilla Glass for protection. Unfortunately, there's no word if the Nokia D1C will be dust or waterproof, but if Nokia plays its card right, they might just give the D1C some much needed armor to withstand daily bump and grind. An alleged 13megapixel rear camera with LED flash was also hinted, together with a 5megapixel front facing snapper. The website then speculated that both cameras are capable of recording HD videos.

In contrast to what others believe to be an entry-level to mid-range Nokia device, Smartphone Price likewise believes that Nokia is capable of giving the D1C a fingerprint scanner and a type C USB. But then again, Nokia will opt to add some figures in its price tag should it decide to make it more competitive. They could also blueprint two versions as some sort of contingency option for the growing Smartphone users of the world.

As for its release date, the Nokia D1C is "expected to fall in late December 2016 or early 2017." It is also worth mentioning that this is not the first time Nokia jumped in to the Android bandwagon. Last year, a Nokia 1100 running on Android 5.0 Lollipop was spotted in the wild and a reported Nokia C1 (some still name it as the Nokia A1) with an Intel chip. But with everything else in between, the Nokia D1C scored impressively on GeekBench: out of 5 tests, the device tallied 667 while running on single-core and 3229 on multi-core.
